Visitors and FHE

We had our first visitors here on the island.  James' parents came up to see the area we've been raving about.

We had to take them to the bridge, of course.  It's an incredible view that everyone loves.  There are always people on/and around the bridge.

Grandma and the kids on the bridge.  It's so high up, it's a little dizzying.

Information plaque: "Deception Pass.  Named by Captain George Vancouver, 10 June 1792." (I almost typed 1972.  Oops.)

"Feeling that he had been 'deceived' as to the nature of the inner waterway, Port Gardner (now Saratoga Passage), he wrote on his chart 'Deception Pass.'  He honored Master Joseph Whidbey, who found the passage while commanding a small-boat crew of explorers, by naming the island 'Whidbey'"

"Velocity of currents in Deception Pass 5 to 8 knots per hour.  Depth varies 4 to 37 fathoms. 1 knot 6082.66 feet.  1 fathom 6 feet."

So the depth of Deception Pass varies from 24 feet to 222 feet!  That's quite a range.

Well, back to pictures.

The kids down by the bridge.  A set of binoculars are a must on this island.

There is a grassy and rocky path that wanders down around the bridge supports.  We had fun exploring that area.  And not as many people make their way all the way down there.

The kids loved having Grandma & Grandpa come to visit, so they could show them all their favorite spots on the island.

The following week, after the grandparents left, we discovered another nice place to hang out.

A fun new park to play at, Washington State Park, in Anacortes, Washington.  Anacortes, which is pronounced, Anna-core-tis.  It's been quite a struggle to figure out how to pronounce all these new places we're exploring.  I used to call it Anna-courts and Anna-cortez.

So we decided to go back again for a little picnic/Family Home Evening.  Logan & James planned it.  We had hot dogs and potato chips and  a great FHE lesson.

Then we were off to explore again.  The water in this area had a rocky shore.

Taylor found a ferry on the water...

and Logan found this little guy.

We got there right when the sun was starting to lower in the sky and it was hard to get good pictures.

There's a sailboat, with it's sails in... or up... or whatever they call it when they're not using them.  A sailor, I am not.

That's Cypress Island and the Rosario Strait.

It was a great family outing.

All of your pics look so neat. I'm bummed that I won't be able to visit while you're there. Keep taking the pictures!
